Trail description:
The forest nature trail in the Matrei district of Zedlach takes you through a magical larch forest, one of Tyrol's oldest larch populations. The oldest trees have an astounding age of more than 500 years and have a trunk circumference of up to seven metres. Display boards describe the forest habitat and the emergence of the larch trees. When the centuries-old, larch population with trees up to 500 years in age turn golden-yellow in autumn, the Zedlacher Paradies (Zedlacher paradise) is at its best. But a walk through this "Paradise" lives up to expectations in spring and summer too. The Zedlacher Paradies forest nature trail above Matrei teaches nature lovers everything worth knowing about the forest and its animals. And under the branches of many powerful larch trees, you will find one of the oversized wrought iron animals that Matrei artist and metal smith Erich Trost created especially for this trail.
